Finance Permanent Secretary Highlights the Role of Accountants in Strengthening Public Trust and National Development
21/09/2026

Mr. Dennis took the opportunity to highlight the Government’s national policy framework which is anchored across four interconnected priorities.

Strengthening institutions;

Building a productive and resilient economy;

Responsibly managing our personal wealth;

and investing in our human capital.

He said none of these four pillars can stand without rigorous transparent financial management.

“So, we can construct roads, modernize ports, expand health centers, and establish new industries, but if we cannot manage the public resources that finance these investments properly our government will grumble.

“If public money is poorly managed, essential services stalled. If procurement is weak, value for money is lost.

“If corruption is tolerated, investor confidence evaporates. And if institutions cannot account for every dollar received and spent, public trust and democracy is destroyed.

“This is why the work of accountants is not merely technical; it is fundamentally about public trust.

“Every dollar entrusted to Government, Business, Church or a School carries an intergenerational responsibility,” Mr. Dennis said.

The Permanent Secretary said Solomon Islands needs a national workforce that thinks critically, that leads courageously and creates continuously.

“To build this workforce, the GREAT Coalition is executing historic reforms in human capital development.”
