Scope and your rights
This policy covers payments to the Institute of Solomon Islands Accountants (ISIA) for membership-related services, professional-registration services, events and paid learning where offered. All amounts are stated in Solomon Islands dollars (SBD). Free services have no fee to refund.
Nothing in this policy excludes rights or remedies available under applicable Solomon Islands law, including the Consumer Protection Act (Cap. 63). A cancellation condition must not be used to avoid responsibility for a service that was not supplied or did not meet an applicable obligation. Service-specific conditions will be disclosed before payment.
Duplicate, excess or incorrect payments
Contact us promptly if you believe you paid twice, paid too much or paid against the wrong invoice. After checking the transaction, we will refund an amount not properly due or, with your agreement, apply it to the correct outstanding charge. We will explain any remaining balance. A bank authorisation or pending transaction may need reconciliation before a refund can be confirmed.
Membership and professional-registration services
A payment is not a guarantee of admission, renewal, registration, a practising certificate or approval of a particular engagement. Eligibility, completeness and the applicable decision process still apply.
If you withdraw an application, or it is declined, ask us to review the charges against the work and service actually provided and any applicable approved fee rule. We will identify any amount refundable and explain the basis of any retained charge. We will not assume every payment is non-refundable or impose an undisclosed processing deduction. Where a service has already been provided, a change of mind does not automatically entitle you to a refund; your legal rights remain unaffected.
Events and face-to-face training
If ISIA cancels an event, you may choose a refund of the fee for the cancelled service or an offered alternative. If a material change to the date, location or delivery means you cannot reasonably use the booking, contact us to discuss a suitable alternative or refund. Credit is not compulsory when a refund is due.
For a voluntary cancellation, our proposed standard is a full refund where we receive your request at least seven calendar days before the event starts. Later cancellations and non-attendance are reviewed individually, taking account of any service already provided and any cancellation charge clearly disclosed and accepted before payment. A transfer to another eligible attendee may be arranged with our written confirmation. An event-specific condition shown before purchase may provide a more suitable cancellation arrangement, subject to applicable rights.
Online courses and digital learning
If a paid course is not made available as described, or an access fault prevents its use, contact us so we can investigate and provide an appropriate remedy. This may be restored access, an agreed alternative or a refund, depending on the circumstances and applicable rights.
Our proposed change-of-mind arrangement is a full refund requested within seven calendar days of payment where the course has not been accessed or used. After learning or assessment has begun, a change-of-mind refund is considered individually. This limitation does not remove remedies for a faulty, misdescribed or undelivered service. Course-specific access periods and completion conditions are disclosed with the course.
How to request a refund
Email secretariat@isia.org.sb, call +677 20131, or contact the Secretariat using the office details on our contact page. Include your name, invoice or receipt reference, service, payment date and amount, and the reason for your request. Provide supporting information only where relevant. Do not email card security codes, full card details, banking passwords or one-time codes.
Our proposed service targets are to acknowledge a request within three Solomon Islands business days, give a decision or progress update within ten business days after the information needed is received, and initiate an approved refund within five business days. A business day excludes weekends and public holidays in Solomon Islands. Bank processing can take additional time; we will explain delays we know about. These are service targets, not statutory deadlines.
Payment method and escalation
Where possible, refunds return to the original payer through the original payment method, subject to verification and the bank's procedures. If that is not possible, we will agree a secure alternative with the verified payer. We do not require you to accept credit instead of a refund that is due. Currency conversion or charges imposed independently by your bank are subject to that bank's terms; tell us if they form part of your complaint.
If you disagree with a decision, request a written explanation and escalation to the Chief Executive Officer or the Institute's authorised representative. You may also seek assistance from the Solomon Islands Consumer Affairs and Price Control Division or pursue other available remedies. Asking ISIA to review a payment does not remove any applicable right to contact your bank or a competent authority.
